Aug 28, 2023

Project Title: Global well-being trends

Tools Used: Tableau

Introduction: This interactive dashboard visualizes the relationship between life expectancy, Human Development Index (HDI) rank and Human Development Group (HDG) across countries from 1990 to 2021. The goal is to provide insights into global health and development trends.

Findings:

  • Life Expectancy Variation:

    • Europe had the highest average life expectancy of 79 and Africa had the lowest life expectancy, 63.

    • Countries with the highest life expectancies (above 80 years) are mainly in economically developed regions.

    • In 2021, Spain, Italy had 83 life expectancy, Switzerland - 84 and Australia over 85 years.

    • Japan had the highest life expectancy at 85 years.

  • Lowest Life Expectancy:

    • Countries with the lowest life expectancies (50 to 60 years) face healthcare and development challenges.

    • The Central African Republic had the lowest life expectancy in 2021, at 54 years.

  • HDI Rank and Group Correlation:

    • Positive correlation between HDI rank and life expectancy.

    • Higher HDI ranks correspond to longer life expectancies, reflecting development's health impact.

  • Human Development Groups:

    • Very High HDI countries generally have higher life expectancies.

    • HDGs categorize nations into Very High, High, Medium, and Low HDI groups.

  • Global Progress and Disparities: Developed regions exhibit higher life expectancies than developing ones.

Visualizations: Interactive visualizations are available in on Tableau public - Link.

Conclusion:

  • The project explores life expectancy, HDI rank, and HDGs, highlighting health and development patterns. Also, how socioeconomic factors impact life expectancy, urging efforts to address health inequalities.

  • Dynamic visualizations provide a comprehensive view of global progress and challenges.
